Pentland Hills Councillor and Lothian MSP Sue Webber has expressed “outrage” after the SNP Government overturned a planning decision to give the go-ahead for a takeaway in Juniper Green.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist representative says the decision by a SNP Government reporter has completely failed to listen to the views of the constituents she represents, who have stood against a takeaway application three times.
The local community have pointed out that there is already adequate takeaway provision extremely near to the planned site for another facility at the old RBS site in Juniper Green.
Sue Webber shares their concerns that this takeaway would also increase congestion and potentially increase safety risks in the area for pedestrians. And this part of Juniper Green also forms part of a Conservation area
She says it is a perfect example of why Scottish Conservative plans to enshrine in law that no local planning decisions can be overturned by the Scottish Government must be introduced urgently.
Scottish Conservative Councillor and Lothian MSP Sue Webber said: “I am outraged that a Scottish Government reporter has meddled with the vie.ws of the local community and given this takeaway the green light.
“I have been proud to stand with the community in Juniper Green against these proposals three times now. They have raised extremely valid concerns over safety and congestion as well as pointing out that the area is already well saturated with takeaways.
“These plans for another takeaway facility simply won’t bring the benefits the applications try to claim.
“I would have thought there were far bigger planning decisions for SNP Government reporters to be casting their eyes over. Instead, they have rode rough shot over local democracy once again.
“That is why Scottish Conservative plans to enshrine in law that no local planning decisions can be overturned by central Government must be supported immediately.”
