Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP for the Lothian region Sue Webber has highlighted the ‘deeply disappointing’ lack of funding provided to NHS Lothian for essential infrastructure.
The Scottish Government has refused to commit investment for major capital projects including the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, the cancer centre at the Western General Hospital and the treatment centre at St John’s Hospital.
NHS Lothian has some of the longest patients waiting times for treatment, with 69.1% of total patients waiting over 12 weeks.
Sue Webber MSP says that her thoughts are with everyone who will be affected by longer wait times as a result of the SNP government’s decision to shelve these major capital projects.
Ms Webber has also highlighted that unlike most other health boards, NHS Lothian is facing a rapidly growing population and one that is ageing, and the funding NHS Lothian is receiving from the Scottish government is not reflecting these unique challenges.
Sue Webber MSP also raised correspondence between NHS Lothian and the Scottish Government which confirmed that the SNP government have taken the decision to immediately halt funding for a host of vital projects in my region.
MSP for the Lothian region, Sue Webber said: “The SNP government is totally failing to provide NHS Lothian with the funding and tools they need to provide the crucial services that my constituents need and deserve.
“Major capital projects across my region including the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, the cancer centre at the Western General Hospital and the treatment centre at St John’s Hospital have all been delayed by this SNP government, which will only add to the already lengthy wait times my constituents are experiencing.
“Identifying and treating diseases is critical and often leads to better treatment outcomes for patients, but sadly due to a lack of funding and support, NHS Lothian has been forced to consider reviewing thresholds for treatment.
“I will continue to fight against the SNP’s devastating cuts and their decision to shelve vital capital infrastructure projects.
“As one of the Lothian MSPs, I will always stand up for my constituents and ensure that they have a strong local champion at Holyrood.”
