On Monday 29th April, Sue Webber, MSP for Lothian Region, and her dog Alfie competed with other politicians and their canine companions to come second in the coveted ‘Holyrood Dog of the Year’ 2024.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes, regardless of breed, creed or ‘pawlitical’ persuasion, strutted their stuff with their MSP owners, as they competed in the Scottish Parliament Gardens to see who was crowned top dog.
Organised jointly by Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club, the competition offered the chance for Sue Webber MSP to show off her four-legged friend and celebrated the unique bond between dogs and their owners. The event also encouraged open dialogue on dog welfare issues in addition to providing an opportunity for MSPs to meet with experts to discuss all aspects of the canine world.
Sue Webber MSP said:
“I am delighted that in the third year in a row Alfie has entered he managed to come second! Alfie has grown up a lot since his first appearance and I am pleased that this time round we were a winning team. Owning a dog is a real privilege and Alfie brings so much joy to our home life. We love getting outdoors for long walks in the Pentlands, although Alfie isn’t a fan of the rain as we saw at the competition.
"The event is important as it provides an opportunity to discuss responsible dog ownership and raise important issues relating to dog welfare.”
